Rent

The end of the shield on 30 June 2023

To limit the rise in rents due to inflation, the government has introduced a "rent shield" until 30 June. The rent reference index (IRL) published by INSEE, which landlords use as a basis for adjusting rents, is capped at 3.50% in mainland France, 2% in Corsica and 2.5% in the French overseas territories. In the 1st quarter of 2023, the IRL was 138.61 in mainland France, an increase of 3.49% over one year. Without the cap, the IRL would have been 142.32, up 6.26% year-on-year.
