Increase in notary fees

Don't wait to buy!

In mid-November, Prime Minister Michel Barnier announced that he wanted to give departmental councils the option of increasing their share of the notary fees paid by property buyers. The maximum rate granted to the départements would thus rise from 4.5% to 5%, i.e. +0.5%. This would represent €1,000 more in fees for the purchase of an old home costing €200,000. The measure, which should not affect first-time buyers, is due to be introduced in June 2025 for a period of three years. The sooner you buy, the better, especially as these charges are not usually financed by the banks.
