MaPrimeRénov' scheme extended to 2025, despite cutbacks

Just before it fell, Michel Barnier's government published a decree setting out the terms and conditions of the MaPrimeRénov' energy renovation scheme for 2025. Between cuts and good news...

The MaPrimeRénov' scheme, the government's main form of support for households undertaking energy-efficiency renovations to their homes, is divided into two sections: a “gesture-based” section, which provides grants to finance a specific type of work, and a “supported” section to finance major renovations. Here's what's new for 2025.

For renovation by gesture

Following the publication of a decree in the Official Journal on 5 December 2024, the ‘step-by-step’ approach has been extended until 31 December 2025 for all work, particularly simple or ‘single-step’ work, i.e. work consisting of carrying out a single renovation operation at a time (changing windows, for example).

Originally, financing for single-gear renovations was due to end in December 2024. Only the installation of a low-carbon heating or hot water system, carried out at the same time as the single-duct system, would have been eligible for MaPrimeRénov'. In 2025, the single-gear system will still be eligible for the bonus, with no obligation to change the heating or hot water system. However, this will be the case from 1ᵉʳ January 2026.

In addition, in 2025, obtaining aid in a gesture-based route will finally not be subject to the completion of an energy performance diagnosis (DPE). Work on a single-family home with an EPD class F or G will remain eligible for the action-based scheme until 31 December 2025. But from 1ᵉʳ January 2026, these properties will have to undergo a major renovation to qualify for grants.

With regard to the amount of aid, the lump sums for heating systems using wood or other biomass will be reduced by 30% from 1ᵉʳ January 2025.

For major renovations

The main changes for large-scale renovations in 2025 concern the amount of aid allocated. The grant will continue to be calculated as a percentage of the cost of the work, based on the energy label gains obtained in the DPE and the household's income level.

The ceilings on eligible expenditure remain unchanged:

▪ For a gain of 2 energy classes (e.g. moving from an F to a D rating): €40,000

▪ For a gain of 3 classes: €55,000

▪ For a gain of 4 classes or more: €70,000

As regards the proportion of aid, within these ceilings, nothing changes for very modest, modest and intermediate households. This is not the case for households on higher incomes, who will see the amount of their grants reduced:

▪ from 30% to 10% for a gain of 2 classes

▪ from 35% to 15% for a gain of 3 classes

▪ from 35% to 20% for a gain of 4 classes or more.

However, the capping ceilings (i.e. the total amount of national, local or private aid that can be received with MaPrimeRénov') increase for households on intermediate or higher incomes:

▪ from 60% to 80% for middle-income households

▪ from 40% to 50% for higher-income households

A 10% bonus always applies if the dwelling is no longer a heat sieve, and this applies to all households.
